Roof inspection

Five places we check on every roof

  1. 1

    Flashing

Metal around chimneys, vents, skylights and walls is a common place for leaks to start.

  2. 2

    Gutters and eaves

Clogged or loose gutters push water back under the shingle edge and onto the fascia.

  3. 3

    Shingle surface

We look for lifted, cracked and missing shingles, worn granules and moss.

  4. 4

    Penetrations

Chimneys, vents and skylights need intact seals, collars and caps.

  5. 5

    Roof edge

Drip edge and starter shingles keep water from getting behind the fascia.

Repair or replace?

Know which one your roof needs

Repair is usually enough when

  • Damage is limited to one area of the roof
  • The rest of the shingles are in good shape
  • A leak traces back to flashing, a vent or a skylight
  • A storm lifted or removed a few shingles

Replacement makes sense when

  • Shingles are curling, cracking or losing granules across the roof
  • Leaks keep coming back after repairs
  • Moss and moisture have reached the roof deck
  • The roof is near the end of its expected life

Not sure which one you need? We inspect the roof first and tell you plainly, before you decide anything.

Questions

Homeowner FAQ

How much does a new roof cost?

It depends on the size and pitch of the roof, access, the materials you choose and the condition of the deck underneath. We give a free written estimate after seeing the roof, so the number is based on your home.

How long does a roof replacement take?

It depends on the size and shape of the roof and on the weather. We confirm an expected timeline in your written estimate.

Should I repair or replace my roof?

We inspect first. If the damage is limited and the rest of the roof is sound, a repair may be all you need. If problems are spread across the roof, we explain why replacement is the better value.

Do you remove moss from roofs?

Yes. Roof cleaning is one of our services. We use gentle methods that protect the shingles and we can advise on keeping moss from coming back.

Do you also paint?

Yes. We paint interiors and exteriors, including trim, soffits and fascia, and we plan the work around your roof project when both are needed.
